💙 Vivianite — A Crystal That Chooses Its Keeper 💙

There are some crystals that simply sit on a shelf… and then there are those that seem to decide who gets to find them.
Vivianite has been in our space for a couple of years now and from the beginning it has never quite felt like an “ordinary” piece to sell. It’s always been a quiet talking point—something people are drawn to, even if they don’t fully understand why.
But for me, my connection to this stone shifted the moment it stepped into something deeper.

It started with a dream.
This was after unpacking and working with a fresh shipment of Vivianite. Nothing unusual at the time—just the usual process of handling, pricing and placing new pieces.
But that night, I had a dream that didn’t feel like a reflection of the day. It felt separate… intentional.

I was near a mountain and there was a woman. A presence. She was floating, glowing in blue-green tones—beautiful, but powerful… and unmistakably protective.
She wasn’t welcoming me forward. She was guarding. Not in a threatening way—but in a very clear, unwavering way.
It stayed with me.
A few days later, I had a quiet realisation: This is connected to the Vivianite.
So I looked into it… and discovered something that honestly gave me chills.
There is a piece of folklore tied to this crystal—stories of a “lady in green.” A spectral feminine presence believed to be connected to Vivianite. Said to protect it. To watch over it. To appear when the energy around it isn’t quite right.
And suddenly, my experience made sense—but not in the way I first thought.
It didn’t feel like a warning against the crystal.
It felt like guidance for it.
From that moment, everything changed in how I worked with it.
Vivianite is now kept tucked away—resting in darkness, beneath a cloth under the counter. Partly to protect its colour, as it naturally darkens with light… but also to protect its energy.
It isn’t something everyone sees.
And interestingly, I don’t consciously decide who to show it to.
There are moments when someone comes into the shop… and there’s just a quiet knowing. Nothing loud or dramatic. Just a subtle pull. And without overthinking it, I find myself bringing out the Vivianite.
And every time… it feels right.
The conversations are deeper. The curiosity is genuine. There’s a respect there.
Like the stone recognises them too.
🌍 The Earth Story Behind Vivianite
Beyond the experience, Vivianite is just as fascinating in its physical formation.

It is a hydrated iron phosphate mineral, meaning it forms through a combination of iron, phosphate and water-rich conditions. Its chemical structure is delicate, which is why it remains such a soft and sensitive crystal.
Vivianite grows in a monoclinic crystal system, often forming:
Slender prismatic crystals
Radiating clusters
Earthy or fibrous masses in softer deposits
What makes it truly unique is where it forms.
Vivianite develops in low-oxygen, organic-rich environments, often where decomposition is actively taking place. These include:
Peat bogs and wetlands
Clay and sediment layers
Fossil beds
River and lake sediments
Even archaeological and burial sites
This is how it earned the name “corpse crystal”—not from anything negative, but from its natural tendency to form around decaying organic matter, including bones.
It is, quite literally, a mineral born from transformation.
🌊 A Crystal That Changes Over Time
One of Vivianite’s most defining features is that it doesn’t stay the same.
When first formed, it is often:
Colourless
Pale green
Soft blue
But once exposed to light and oxygen, the iron within it begins to oxidise, gradually deepening the colour into:
Blue-green
Teal
Deep indigo
Almost black in some cases
This process can happen slowly, over time, which means every piece of Vivianite is in a constant state of becoming.
It also displays strong pleochroism, meaning its colour can shift depending on the angle you view it from—adding to its almost otherworldly appearance.
📍 Where Vivianite is Found
Vivianite occurs in various locations around the world, though high-quality crystal specimens are relatively rare.

Some notable sources include:
Bolivia – known for producing large, deep blue, well-formed crystals
Russia and Ukraine – often yielding rich, dark-toned specimens
Germany – historically significant deposits
England – where it was first identified
Parts of the United States, including New Jersey and Michigan
Each location produces slightly different expressions of the mineral, depending on the surrounding environment and conditions during formation.
⚠️ A Delicate Mineral
Vivianite is not a robust crystal.
With a Mohs hardness of just 1.5–2, it is:
Very soft
Easily scratched
Sensitive to prolonged light exposure
This is why it is rarely used in jewellery and is instead treasured by collectors.
Keeping it stored in darkness helps preserve its colour and integrity—something that aligns perfectly with the way it already prefers to exist… quietly and with intention.
💚 A Heart-Centred Energy
Energetically, Vivianite carries a deep connection to the Heart Chakra.
It supports:
Healing emotional wounds
Encouraging compassion and gentleness
Releasing negativity and self-judgement
Easing anxiety and emotional discomfort
Reconnecting with warmth, care and inner peace
But unlike lighter heart stones, Vivianite works beneath the surface.
It meets you in the deeper layers—the ones that aren’t always visible.

✨ A Crystal That Knows
Maybe it’s the way it forms. Maybe it’s the way it changes. Or maybe it’s something harder to explain.
But Vivianite doesn’t feel like a crystal that’s meant for everyone.
It feels like one that waits.
One that reveals itself at the right time… to the right person.
And perhaps that’s what that presence was really showing me.
Not to stay away—but to be mindful of who I invite in.
💙 Vivianite is not just something you find…it’s something that finds you—when you’re ready to truly see it.
