Aegirine is a sodium iron silicate mineral with the chemical formula NaFe³⁺Si₂O₆, belonging to the pyroxene group. It crystallises in the monoclinic crystal system and commonly forms in igneous rocks such as nepheline syenites, alkaline pegmatites and volcanic environments rich in sodium and iron.
 
Typically appearing in deep black, dark green or brown-black tones, Aegirine often forms as elongated striated crystals with a vitreous lustre. Its colour is primarily influenced by iron content, contributing to its dark protective appearance and strong grounding energy. With a hardness of 5.5–6 on the Mohs scale, Aegirine is moderately durable and best handled with mindful care, particularly in delicate natural formations.
 
Aegirine is sometimes associated with Acmite, an older name once commonly used for the same mineral species. While both names refer to the same mineral composition, “Aegirine” is the accepted modern mineralogical term.
