Amazonite is a beautiful blue-green variety of microcline feldspar, recognised for its distinctive turquoise, aqua, mint and sea-green colouring, often patterned with white or cream veining. It commonly forms within granite and pegmatites, with its characteristic colour linked to trace elements and structural features within the mineral.
 
With a hardness of around 6–6.5 on the Mohs scale, Amazonite has been valued for thousands of years as an ornamental stone, carving material and gemstone. Significant deposits are found in Brazil, Madagascar, Russia, India and the United States, with each locality producing its own variations in colour and pattern.
