Atlantisite is a rare geological and spiritual treasure first discovered in the Dundas region of Tasmania, most famously around Stichtite Hill and the surrounding serpentine-rich outcrops of the Dundas mining district. While small occurrences have been reported elsewhere in the world, the finest and most recognised material comes from this region, making Atlantisite especially significant to Tasmania's unique geological heritage.
Atlantisite is a natural combination of two minerals:
💚 Serpentine – Formed from the alteration of magnesium-rich ultramafic rocks deep within the Earth's mantle and often associated with grounding, protection and a strong connection to the Earth.
💜 Stichtite – A rare magnesium chromium carbonate-hydroxide mineral first discovered in Tasmania in the early 1900s. Its beautiful purple colour developed through low-grade metamorphism, where serpentine-bearing rocks underwent chemical changes that introduced chromium and other trace elements.
Over immense geological timescales, veins of stichtite formed within and alongside serpentine, creating the iconic green and purple patterns that define Atlantisite. The remarkable specimens from Tasmania's Dundas ultramafic belt are regarded as some of the finest in the world.
