Its colour comes from trace amounts of manganese, calcium and rare earth elements, creating shades that range from oceanic teal to electric sapphire blue. It forms in igneous and metamorphic environments, often alongside feldspar, quartz, tourmaline and mica. Blue Apatite is found in notable deposits across Madagascar, Brazil, Mexico, Russia and Canada, with Madagascar producing some of the most intensely coloured material.
