Cinnabar is a striking mercury sulphide mineral renowned for its deep scarlet to crimson-red colour and long association with transformation and alchemy. As the primary ore of mercury, it forms within hydrothermal veins and is often found alongside Quartz, Calcite and other sulphide minerals. Significant deposits occur in China, Spain, Italy, the United States and Peru.
