Fluorite is a colourful calcium fluoride mineral known for its beautifully structured crystals and remarkable range of colours. It commonly forms in cubic and octahedral crystals within hydrothermal veins and mineral-rich cavities, with shades including purple, green, blue, yellow, clear and multicoloured rainbow formations.
 
Its distinctive colours and zoning develop through a combination of trace elements, structural imperfections and natural radiation during formation. Layered growth can create striking bands and colour transitions within a single crystal, making each Fluorite specimen unique. Significant deposits are found in China, Mexico, the United Kingdom, South Africa and the United States.
 
With a hardness of 4 on the Mohs scale, Fluorite is a relatively soft mineral and benefits from careful handling. Natural specimens may display internal lines, cleavage, inclusions and colour zoning, all of which are part of its natural formation.
