Gold Sheen Obsidian is a powerful variety of Black Obsidian formed in mass volcanic glass formations when silica-rich lava cools rapidly, preventing crystal growth. Its radiant golden sheen is created by gas bubbles and iron impurities becoming trapped within the molten magma as it cools. While subtle in raw form, polishing reveals a striking chatoyant glow that moves across the surface of the stone. With a hardness of approximately 5–5.5, this crystal carries both reflective beauty and intense energetic depth.
 
Primary sources include Mexico and the United States, with smaller deposits found worldwide wherever Obsidian occurs.
