Satin Spar is a fibrous variety of gypsum with the chemical formula CaSO₄·2H₂O, formed in ancient evaporite environments where mineral-rich waters slowly dried, leaving behind thick layers of crystallising gypsum. Over time, these layers compressed into long, parallel crystal fibres that create Satin Spar’s iconic silky sheen, glowing striations and soft, moonlike radiance.
Although it is commonly sold as Selenite, Satin Spar is structurally distinct. True Selenite forms in clear, glass-like sheets, while Satin Spar is milky, fibrous and chatoyant, displaying a luminous band of light that moves across its surface. Both are forms of gypsum and share similar energetic qualities, but Satin Spar is the variety most often used for wands, charging plates, towers, spheres and purification tools.
