Smithsonite is a beautiful zinc carbonate mineral with the chemical formula ZnCO₃, known for its soft colours, rounded botryoidal formations and smooth, often pearly to vitreous lustre. It can occur in shades of blue, green, pink, lavender, yellow, grey and white, with its colouring influenced by trace elements present during formation.
 
It commonly forms in the oxidised zones of zinc deposits, where zinc-bearing minerals are altered over time through interaction with water and surrounding rock. With a hardness of around 4–4.5 on the Mohs scale, Smithsonite is relatively soft and is best handled with care, particularly in delicate natural formations.
 
Energetically, Smithsonite is traditionally associated with tranquillity, clarity, confidence and emotional healing. Working across all chakras, it may encourage greater energetic balance while supporting a calmer and more centred emotional state.
